"Activists have been struggling against the right-wing religious group FDFL (http://www.40daysforlife.com) for the past 2 weeks--providing safe passage to the women seeking health care and helping to keep the clinic open. The Anti-Abortionists' goal is to shut down this clinic and all clinics that provide abortion services to working class women. We urgently need your help in joining us this weekend in keeping this clinic open and safe.Activists, students, women and men who want to defend a woman’s right to control her own body are invited to join us starting at 9am at the Planned Parenthood in Pomona on 1550 Garey Street (off Garey on the 10 freeway).

Since the passage of Roe vs. Wade in 1973, the conservative right has been chipping away at abortion access on both the legal and ideological front. Currently, more than 80% of all counties in the United States have NO abortion provider. It is time for this trend to stop. Access to legal and safe abortion is an important health care issue and a basic issue for women’s equality and health. Please join us in standing up for women’s rights!!!"

Riverside Progressives, Where you at?

I am guessing, and actually hoping, that it is because political progressives in Riverside, California don't know about the following and that is why they have not mobilized:

There is a group called "40 days for life" and they have been holding a "vigil" for two weeks, everyday!, outside the Planned Parenthood site in Riverside.

I went today and was told by the security guards that I was the first counter protester they've seen this whole two weeks!

It was a badly organized me versus very well organized anti-choice protesters. I stayed out there for about 1.5 hours.

Are we going to let anti-choice protesters yell this to people and not do anything to counter it: "We'll adopt your baby!" "Your baby wants to live!"

I am kind of upset with the progressives in Riverside for not organizing anything themselves, I am from San Bernardino, and I hope it is because a lot of them haven't heard about these protests.

Real Progressives: Dump Democrats!

This is the text of a letter that I will send next Monday to the Democratic National Committee:

Chairman Tim Kaine

Democratic National Committee
430 S. Capitol St. SE
Washington
, DC 20003

Dear Chairman Tim Kaine:

I am writing to let you know that because of the recent actions of the Democratic Party, especially its leadership, regarding health care reform and single payer, I have now registered as an independent after years of being registered as a Democrat.

Here is why: The reason we will not get a single payer health plan is because of Democrats--not Republicans. We all know that Republicans cannot be depended upon for a single payer plan. But with a substantial majority in the House, 60 votes in the Senate and the White House being held by Democrats, I would expect that single payer would be passed.

It is clear now more than ever that members of the Democratic Party are charlatans just like the Republican Party. The Democratic Party will tell progressives the things they want to hear during elections (end the wars, ending/reforming NAFTA, respect for human rights, money for education, help the environment, health care for all) only to sucker us into voting for you and once we do vote you into office, you turn your back on us and side with the same corporate interests the Republicans adore.

Well, no more-- at least for me. I will no longer support any Democrat. I will not fall into that falsehood of voting for the "lesser of two evils." Because I see clearly now that the only difference between the Democratic and Republican Party is a difference in rhetoric, not in deeds.

I am just one voter and so you may not care much about what I do, but I will encourage others to stop being taken for granted and search for real progressive parties like the Green party or one of the many socialist parties that actually believe what they say and will not turn their back on their supporters.

Sincerely,

END of Letter

I'm also gonna send it to these two people:

Chairman Chris Van Hollen

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

430 S Capitol Street, S.E.

Washington, D.C. 20003

and

Chairman Robert Menendez

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee

120 Maryland Avenue, NE

Washington, DC 20002

This is pressure politics I know.

Anti Hate Rally A Success!

I just came back from the Anti Hate rally in Riverside, California. We had over 150+ people at our rally. We later heard that the Nazis had about 12 people. so at our rally alone we had more than 10 times the number of people they had.

That should send a message to the Nazis: We outnumber you and whenever and wherever you protest, we will protest against you.

There was this other rally that confronted the Nazis and according to this report, there were some confrontations which ended with the flags and the signs of the sick, vile, and ignorant Nazis being ripped up and the Nazis themselves "fleeing" from the scene. I wasn't at this one, so I can't say how accurate these reports are:

Confrontation ends Neo-Nazi Protest

I.E. Illegal Immigration Rally Met With Protest

At the rally I was at, we were also told that the next protest they are planning will be in Rialto. Make no mistake, we will be there also!

Know Why Neocons Support Coup in Honduras?

US-HONDURAS: Dictatorships and Double Standards Revisited
Analysis by Daniel Luban and Jim Lobe*

The political Right has historically been in favor of dictators that are “friendly” to US interests. (The left too, which the article fails to mention)

Whether the leftist governments that have been overthrown are democratically elected matters not. What matters is that the dictators will be friendly to US interests.

The article fails to put blame on democrats like Clinton who went along with this same policy in Haiti.

Republicans are trying to do away with their historical support for US friendly dictators and want to be seen as supporting and exporting democracy. The only ones who will believe this are the gullible and historically uninformed.
